Description
Did you know that a simple chapatti and a lotus sparked the first-ever revolution against the British in India?
History records the Revolution of 1857 as the First War of Independence. The first organised attempt that brought to the limelight leaders like Rani Lakshmi Bai, Tatya Tope and Mangal Pandey. Yet, there seems to be a Hindu Sanyasi who finds a significant mention in historical texts but otherwise remains anonymous. A Sanyasi who travelled extensively before the spark of the First War of Independence was ignited in Meerut. The same Sanyasi who would later lay the foundation of the Arya Samaj.
Swami Dayanand and the 1857 Revolution offers a post-colonial reconstruction of the events on the ground and Swami Dayanand’s place in India’s freedom story.
