Description
Mir Taqi Mir, famously called Khuda-e-Sukhan (God of Poetry), is considered one of the greatest early Urdu poets. Mir’s mastery of Rekhta—the early form of Urdu—was so profound that even Mirza Ghalib remarked, “You are not the only master of Rekhta, Ghalib; there was someone named Mir in the previous era.” It was Mir’s influence that compelled Ghalib to write in Urdu rather than Persian.
Other prominent poets of that time, such as Sauda, Mazhar, and Nazir Akbarabadi, also wrote in Urdu, but Mir’s impact on both common people and connoisseurs was unparalleled. This book presents a curated selection of Mir’s finest poetry, with meanings provided for difficult words to aid readers in fully appreciating his work.
