On June 20, 1756, Nawab Siraj ud-Daulah conquered erstwhile Calcutta and razed the English battalions to the ground. Defeated, the British escaped to Falta. To reclaim their business, Watson and Clive arrived from Madras to Bengal. On June 23, 1757, the British trumped Siraj ud-Daulah in the infamous ‘Battle of Plassey’ which marked the end of Mughal empire and start of English reign in India.
