Cavalcade

On 15 March 1996, Bruno de Stabenrath made love for the last time; the next day he was lying in a coma in hospital. He spent the following fourteen months recovering and accepting, that short of a miracle, he would be a quadraplegic for the rest of his life.
Cavalcade tells Bruno's story through an alter ego, Leo, beginning with the moment when he is thrown out of his car. Until then Leo was a wild-child, a playboy who had acted in Truffaut films as a boy, had just landed a recording deal for his band and had six girlfriends on the go. Now he is foced to navigate his way through morphine induced nightmares and overwhelming feelings of helplessness to discover that his love of life runs deep, that his family mean more to him than he realised and that even flat on his back the women still love him.
This razor-sharp tragi-comdey tells how Leo - and Bruno - veered from moments of optimism to abject despair and how his inimitable spirit never failed to shine through.
