Bunter the Ventriloquist

Billy Bunter's gifts are few. A duffer at Latin and a dud at football, the only talent of which the fat Owl of the Remove can boast is his prowess at eating, and in this, his favourite pastime, he beats everyone hollow without a doubt! But second to this, he possesses a remarkable skill in ventriloquism. This is known by several members of Greyfriars School who have suffered from Bunter's ability to make imaginary dogs growl from unexpected corners. But it was when Bunter discovered he could imitate the voices of Mr. Quelch and Mr. Prout that the fun began.

It all started with the arrival of a letter from Bunter's father who promised him two pounds ten if he got himself into the Remove football team. The fact that Bunter loathed games made this pretty difficult, but the prospect of mountains of tuck which such an enormous "tip" would purchase called for a special effort. Harry Wharton, of course flatly refused to consider the idea, and howls of derision came from the rest of the form, which was when Bunter decided the situation demanded a spot of ventriloquism.
