Remember Me by Mary Higgins Clark is an emotional, yet gripping, novel about a family trying its best to keep things together. Menley Nichols blames herself for the death of her first born, Bobby, who died in a car accident. She is unable to get over the trauma and cannot forgive herself for the child’s death. Things get so out of hand that her marriage to Adam Nichols, who is a well-to-do criminal attorney, begins to fall apart too.
Just when things are getting irreversibly bad, Menley and Adam have a baby daughter named Hannah. Hannah comes as a life saviour for the whole family and both Adam and Menley are determined to give their lives a fresh start. They decide to rebuild their shattered lives around the newborn baby girl and for this reason, they decide to spend a month at Cape Cod. They rent a house called ‘Remember House’ there and move into the tranquil surroundings to spend some quality time together.
Adam thinks the beautiful environment will be ideal for Menley to bond with her child and slowly get over the past. However, things begin to change for the worse as Menley is reminded about her little Bobby at every instant. Strange events begin to occur, which take her back to the past. Menley begins to get paranoid about Hannah’s safety and fears for her life. Adam, meanwhile, takes on the case of a client who has allegedly killed his wife by drowning her.
On the one hand, Adam’s marriage has begun to crumble again and on the other, he has a difficult client to deal with. Events turn out such that these two scenarios conjoin and a disturbing web is created. The Nichols’ marriage, Menley’s sanity and Hannah’s safety is at stake when an intense confrontation takes place on a rain-stricken beach. Remember Me was published in 2004 by Pocket Books and is available in paperback.
