Book Description
The Greatest Stories from the Northeast Ever Told, selected and edited by Jobeth Ann Warjri, is a landmark anthology that brings together 27 powerful short stories from the culturally rich and diverse Northeast India.
Featuring renowned writers like Temsula Ao, Mamoni Raisom Goswami, Saurav Kumar Chaliha, and Mamang Dai, alongside contemporary literary voices such as Janice Pariat, Anjum Hasan, Avinuo Kire, and Prajwal Parajuly, and rising stars like Shalim M Hussain, Gankhu Sumnyan, and Lede E Miki Pohshna, this anthology captures a vibrant literary landscape rarely seen in mainstream publishing.
From stories of political unrest and personal loss, to those exploring identity, religion, sexuality, and cultural memory, these narratives reflect both the magic and realism of life in the Northeast. Whether it’s a mysterious umbrella, a sacred dream, or the smell of bamboo blossoms signaling disaster, these tales are as tender as they are turbulent, and will linger in the reader’s mind long after the final page.
