About the Author
Ruskin Bond is one of India’s most celebrated writers, with a career that has spanned more than seventy years. Born in 1934 in Kasauli, Himachal Pradesh, he grew up in several places including Jamnagar, Dehradun, and Shimla. Bond has authored over a hundred works, including novels, short stories, poetry, essays, memoirs, and children’s books. His first novel, The Room on the Roof, won the John Llewellyn Rhys Memorial Prize in 1957. Over the years, he has been honored with prestigious awards such as the Sahitya Akademi Award, the Padma Shri, and the Padma Bhushan. Several of his stories, including The Blue Umbrella and A Flight of Pigeons, have been adapted into films. Ruskin currently resides in Landour, Mussoorie, and continues to write with the same warmth and insight that has made him a beloved literary figure.
